Softball Pitching: A Clinical, Biomechanical Approach

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Describe the function of the shoulder, elbow joints, and muscles.
  2. Describe ideal alignment and biomechanics of the Windmill Softball Pitch.
  3. Describe biomechanics and pathomechanics of the shoulder and elbow complex.
  4. Analyze open and closed-chain biomechanical segments of the pitching motion.
  5. Recognize the following conditions and record the relationship to abnormal shoulder/elbow function during pitching:
    • Anatomy and proper angles
    • Biomechanics as related to clock positions
    • Shoulder retroversion
    • Shoulder and elbow distraction forces
  6. Evaluate the specific mechanics of the windmill pitching motion.
  7. Compare the basics of different pitches.
  8. Defend the principles of pitch counts as related to softball.
  9. Summarize specific pitching drills to incorporate proper biomechanics or correct faults.
  10. Choose specific pitching drills to incorporate proper biomechanics or correct faults.



Instructor

Ronald F. Agrigento, P.T., D.P.T., A.T.C.

Ron Agrigento received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Marquette Unicersity in 1989 and his Doctoral degree from Shenandoah University in 2008. Ron is also a Certified Athletic Trainer, and active with several area high school athletic programs. Ron has coached several softball travel teams and his expertise in movement impairments has propelled those organizations to dominate their competition. Ron has been a co-owner of PTSIR since 1996 and in Private Practice Physical Therapy for over 28 Years.
